Abstract: The article analyzes the embodiment of «the Imaginary Russia» in the works of film director Sergei Ovcharov. Using the example of the unrealized screenplay «The Little Humpbacked Horse» (Konyok-Gorbunok) and other works, the features of the director's vision are examined, in which «the Imaginary Russia» is closely connected with folklore, the game and carnival culture. The importance of alogism and absurdity in creating a comic effect is emphasized The peculiarities of the director's work with space, time, and the collective unconscious are analyzed.
